THE AVAILABLE WINES

WHITE WINES

CHARDONNAY

2005  - This wine confirms the vineyard's emerging tradition for this grape variety. Beautiful now, it will cellar for up to five years.
$17/bottle, $204/dozen

SEMILLON

2005 –  A fruity wine which is starting to develop the depth expected in a good Hunter Valley semillon. $14.50/bottle, $174/dozen

VERDELHO

2004 –  In his "Put to the Test" column of November 23, 2005, in the Good Living section of The Sydney Morning Herald, Huon Hooke picked this wine as his bargain of the week, saying:

“From the Hunter’s Broke Fordwich sub-region, made by Andrew Margan, this is a pale verdelho which smells of fresh pear with a spicy, doughy yestiness and a hint of musk. It’s refreshingly light, soft and straightforward with a clean finish that’s dry for a verdelho. Good varietal character.”

Two bronze medals from the 2004 Hunter Valley Wine and  Small Winemakers Shows. Won bronze at the 2006 Sydney Royal Wine Show. $14.50/bottle, $174/dozen

2005 - A fruit-driven wine with an aromatic nose. A delicious wine. $14.50/bottle, $174/dozen

2006 - This is an interesting wine made with a little more residual sugar which gives the wine more fruitiness. It is appealing to those who like a lighter wine with more apparent flavour - dare we say it, like New Zealanders make sauvignon blanc. $14.50/bottle, $174/dozen

RED WINES

2003 Bird's Keep Shiraz - One of the best red wines we have made without a doubt. The flavours are superb  - a blend of red berry and sweer fruit characters balanced by French oak. It is bottled with a Stelvin cap to ensure the wine tastes just as the winemaker intended. The wine won bronze medals at the 2004 Hunter Valley and Small Winemakers Shows.  Won gold at the 2006 Hunter Valley Wine Show, bronze at the 2006 and 2007 Sydney Royal Wine Show.  $22/bottle, $264/dozen

2004 Wattlebrook Shiraz -   A lighter wine without the tannin structure of the Bird's Keep. Great value.  $12/bottle, $130/dozen

2005 Bird's Keep Shiraz - James Halliday said of this wine: "Abundant blackberry and plum fruit, good length and depth with harmonious tannin and oak contributions. Rating: 94/100." He also marked it as a wine of special interest. This puts it into his very top bracket. Grange got 97/100, Penfolds Magill 94/100 and RWT Barossa shiraz 95/100. Its latest medal was a gold medal at the 2009 Hunter Valley Wine Show.  $22/bottle, $264/dozen

2006 Bird's Keep Shiraz - An elegant, rich Hunter shiraz, probably closer to the 2003 rather than the 2005. Drinking superbly now.  $22/bottle, $264/dozen
